THE GROWING PAINS UPON THE DEATH OF A TEACHER

In this talk – which I have titled ‘the growing pains following the death of a teacher’ and which is inspired by a wonderful talk by R’ Yisroel Reisman – I would like to discuss how to harness the real pain felt when a teacher passes away and understand how we can grow in response to their loss. To do so, I will review four stories of great Torah teachers which span the Tanach, Talmud and modern period, beginning with a fascinating episode described in Chapter 2 of Melachim Beit (II Kings) involving Eliyahu Hanavi – Elijah the prophet.

ELISHA AND ELIYAHU

Eliyahu has spent his life fighting false idols while dedicating the rest of his time to mentor his student Elisha to whom he had become a spiritual father figure. Eliyahu was now around 80 years old and he knew that this particular day would be his last afterwhich he would ascend heavenward. Yeshurun’s new Tzemach programme for boys years 7+ and girls years 11+

Yeshurun’s new Tzemach programme for boys years 7+ and girls years 11+ continues this Shabbat morning 14th May.

Led by Yossi Hambling, Tzemach promotes spiritual growth through a refreshing combination of davening, learning and kiddushing.

This Shabbos: Kedoshim: Mitzva-Mania!!!  combining the full Shabbos morning service with short divrei Torah and of course a delicious Kiddush. All welcome to join us from 9.30am.
